FRagments Architecture is an Antigua-based practice working across heritage, residential, civic, commercial and community architecture. We take on commissions where close design leadership and technical rigour matter — from private homes to complex, multimillion-dollar civic and heritage work.
We believe architecture is a slow art. It asks for patience, careful drawing, good judgement and an understanding of how things are actually built. We stay close to that process — from the first idea to the last detail.
We design for the present, but not just for the moment.
The ambition is simple: to make buildings with character, clarity and the staying power to outlast the moment in which they were made.
The name isn't a metaphor picked for a logo. It reflects something fundamental about architecture: the whole is made from pieces.
Every project begins with fragments — place, climate, history, material, programme, people, constraints and ideas. Each carries something different. Architecture is the act of bringing them into relationship: deciding what matters, what belongs, what can change, and what each piece contributes to the larger idea.
That is FRagments Architecture.
We're interested in the moment those individual pieces stop reading separately and begin to form something whole — coherent, considered, and particular to its place.
Because no single fragment makes the architecture.
It's how they come together that makes the whole.
Curisa's grandfather, Elderfield Gibbs Smith, served as Master Builder on sixteen of the original private houses at Jumby Bay — Osprey, Swann, Heinbole, Trajn Blue, Eagles Landing (now Buckley), Turtle Crossing (now Martlets), Flint, Franklyn, Bananaquit, Pond Bay Villas, Oleander, Pasture Point, Jumby Bay Spa, Sand Bay, Mangrove Point, and Dragonfly. The houses were designed primarily by Andrew Goodenough, with others by MCM, across the latter half of the twentieth century.
She grew up on those sites — watching foundations get poured, frames go up, finishes get worked by hand. That early grounding in how a building actually goes together informs how the studio works today.
A registered architect and Principal of FRagments Architecture, Curisa Smith leads the Antigua-based practice with a deeply engaged approach, remaining closely involved in every commission — from first sketch through construction and handover — across heritage, civic, residential and commercial architecture, as well as selected international competitions.
FRagments provides a comprehensive architectural service encompassing architectural design, interior architecture, project management and Architect of Record services, allowing each commission to be carried through with continuity of design intent, technical rigour and oversight.
In March 2025, His Excellency Sir Rodney Williams, GCMG, Governor-General of Antigua & Barbuda, appointed Curisa Lead Architect for the restoration of Government House — the Governor-General's official residence and one of the country's most significant historic buildings. Reopened to public function in 2026, the commission represents a defining strand of her practice: the careful negotiation of heritage, contemporary use and national identity.
Beyond Government House, Curisa's experience spans multimillion-dollar civic, residential and commercial projects across Antigua & Barbuda and the wider Caribbean, alongside selected international competition work.
Alongside her practice at FRagments, Curisa has worked with Andrew Goodenough Architects since 2018, contributing to the design and delivery of high-end residential and commercial projects and developing substantial experience across complex commissions.
Her contribution to architecture extends beyond practice. Curisa serves as President of the Institute of Architects of Antigua & Barbuda, Regional Vice-President of the Commonwealth Association of Architects for the Caribbean and Americas, and Deputy Chair of the Council of Architects of Antigua & Barbuda — roles through which she contributes to architectural advocacy, professional standards and the advancement of the profession nationally, regionally and internationally.
