The practice.

Studio

A Caribbean practice with an international outlook.

FRagments Architecture works from Antigua across heritage, residence, civic and community projects. We take on commissions where principal-led design and technical authority matter — from $2M private homes to multimillion-dollar civic restoration.

Architecture is a slow art. We work patiently, draw carefully, build well. The result is buildings designed to outlast the moment they were made in.

Before the studio, there was the site.
Before the site, there was the builder.

Lineage

Three generations on the island.

Curisa's grandfather, Elderfield Gibbs Smith, served as Master Builder on sixteen of the original private houses at Jumby Bay — Osprey, Swann, Heinbole, Trajn Blue, Eagles Landing (now Buckley), Turtle Crossing (now Martlets), Flint, Franklyn, Bananaquit, Pond Bay Villas, Oleander, Pasture Point, Jumby Bay Spa, Sand Bay, Mangrove Point, and Dragonfly. The houses were designed primarily by Andrew Goodenough, with others by MCM, across the latter half of the twentieth century.

She grew up on those sites — watching foundations get poured, frames go up, finishes get worked by hand. That early grounding in how a building actually goes together informs how the studio works today.

Curisa Smith

Principal · Registered Architect · FRagments Architecture

A registered architect leading FRagments Architecture from Antigua. Curisa carries every commission personally — from first sketch to handover — across heritage, civic, residence, and international competition.

In 2024, Curisa was appointed Architect for the Restoration of Government House — the official residence of the Governor-General of Antigua & Barbuda — directly by His Excellency Sir Rodney Williams, GCMG. The building reopened to public function in 2026. The studio's portfolio spans multimillion-dollar civic and residential commissions across the region, with selected international competition work.

Alongside FRagments, Curisa has worked as an Architect with Andrew Goodenough Architects since 2018, contributing to residential and commercial projects across the practice.

Her leadership extends beyond the studio: she serves as President of the Antigua & Barbuda Institute of Architects, Regional Vice President for the Americas at the Commonwealth Association of Architects, and Deputy Chair of the Council of Architects.

How we work

For the Caribbean we're inheriting.

Every commission gets the principal's hand from first sketch to final certificate. That's how the studio is built, and that's what holds across every project we take on.

The work covers four areas. Heritage, where the design move is restraint. Residence, where the focus is on the people who'll live there. Civic and community, where the building belongs to everyone. And institutional work, where we carry the technical authority that the commission requires.
